Afghans being deported from Iran, 2019.

Greetings!

I’m a journalist and author with a global view after more than 30 years reporting from around the world. I’m also an occasional sketchbook artist and I incorporate drawings into some of my journalism. So, with Sketchy Reports, I’m offering stories and reflections on the present and past that draw on all my experiences.

Thank you for your support!

About Andrew North

I was born in Britain but I’ve spent most of my career as a journalist abroad, living in 10 countries so far. I was a BBC foreign correspondent for many years, with postings to Afghanistan, Iraq, India and the United States. I’ve covered elections, natural disasters, the 9/11 attacks and the wars that followed in Afghanistan and Iraq. I’ve reported on other conflicts in the Middle East and Asia, in the Caucasus and south-eastern Europe and a coup in the Maldives. My writing, sometimes with my drawings, has been published by The Economist, The Guardian, Nikkei Asia, The Sunday Times, Foreign Policy, Foreign Affairs and Tortoise Media among others. You can find more of my art work here. I wrote a book on my reporting from Afghanistan, called War & Peace & War: 20 Years in Afghanistan, published in 2024 by Ithaka Press.
